Server-Based Technology Advantages

Centralized Server-based Document Conversion, OCR and Publishing

ServerAdlib Express Server Document Transformation Framework (DTF) is the integral component of all Express Server applications that makes them the world’s most advanced set of server-based document rendering solutions. With DTF, Express Server products are easily integrated with other enterprise applications, seamlessly incorporated into document workflows and their capabilities can be accessed using multiple processes and methodologies. In addition to integration responsibilities, DTF also manages document transformation jobs through Fault Monitoring and Recovery (FMR), load balancing, status notifications and job prioritization. It has also has built-in redundancy capabilities for mission critical jobs.

Benefits of a server-based document conversion solution include, but are not limited to:

  • Easier deployment
  • Easier integration
  • Easier manageability
  • Easier maintenance
  • Better performance
  • Better deliverability
  • Better fidelity
  • Better scalability

Integration Methodologies

Integrating seamlessly with enterprise application software or as part of any document workflow solution, Express Server applications offer significant value, more functionality and a lower total cost of ownership than any other document conversion software on the market.

Watched Folders and Sub-Folders

Document file folders can be set up and monitored by any of the Express Server applications. Preconfigured instructions are applied to a folder and automatically applied to every document placed in the folder. This is an ideal integration methodology for repetitive projects that require the same job processes. It also provides a rapid deployment and simple integration with existing systems. Loose coupling between systems increases the resilience of the overall workflow.

Email

Connect users and systems to Express Server applications using an existing email infrastructure. Users simply email a file as an email attachment. The converted file is returned to the sender. The email folder is treated in a similar manner as Watched Folders.

Integrated Scripting Support

Gain complete control over the document workflow with integrated VB and Java Script. Execute scripts at different events triggers to add control logic and provide customized operations to the document transformation and delivery process.

XML Job Tickets

Tailor each document transformation job to meet the requirements of a workflow by creating an XML-based instruction file. The XML Job Ticket contains processing instructions for Express Server including:

  • Source documents
  • Publishing and conversion settings
  • Document delivery options

XML Job Ticket Templates

Adlib makes it possible to pre-design and build XML Job Tickets and include them in a central repository. Users then build XML job tickets that include repetitive instructions from other XML job tickets. In this way it is possible to change one job ticket but affect multiple tickets.\

Job tickets are created by custom scripts or applications and contain:

  • Pointers to source files
  • Conversion settings
  • Publishing requirements
  • Delivery destinations

Web Services

By being an SOA Compliant Document Transformation Service, DTF can be easily integrated into any network utilizing SOAP compliant messaging.

Scalability

The scalability of Adlib Express Server applications is unprecedented. It’s just as simple to implement a point solution for tactical departmental use as it is to integrate it into a strategic enterprise-wide document rendering workflow service available to multiple sources and applications. It is effortless to add additional servers as needed. Multiple projects from multiple sources are automatically managed by routing jobs to multiple servers while automated monitoring processes ensure job completion by rerouting incomplete jobs due to hardware failure for example. As demand and criticality increase, simply add servers to reduce conversion time and increase redundancy. There is no need to modify code. Adlib Express Server applications are self-managing.

Job Management

Prioritizing and Scheduling

Set priority levels on a per-job basis or on a per-workflow basis. Express Server applications, through the inherited capabilities of the DTF, will capture priority codes and place jobs in the queue accordingly.

Load Balancing

To ensure that jobs are properly allocated and evenly distributed among servers in a multi-server environment, DTF has built-in load balancing capabilities that will automatically route jobs based on priority, size and server availability and utilization.

Reporting

There is nothing worse than not having insight into jobs going through a certain workflow process. Adlib Express Server applications have comprehensive reporting capabilities that contain job status details, error logs, and reports success or failure to calling applications. These reports are accessible on demand.

Fault Monitoring and Recovery (FMR)

A windows service monitors Express Server application performance to maximize up-time. Corrupted documents are handled gracefully so that document workflows are not interrupted. If a server goes down due to hardware failure, it will automatically reengage itself once the server is rebooted.

Convert Testimonials

“Before we implemented a solution from AdLib, our document workflows were a nightmare to manage. With Express Server at the heart of our system we now have a quick and powerful way move our documents through the various approvals and on to our intranet where the workers can access them.”
